Inside NYU’s mission to make navigating NYC subways accessible to all


John-Ross Rizzo, MD shared how his experiences led him to lead team of researchers at Tandon School of Engineering and Grossman School of Medicine to create an app, Commute Booster, to help people with visual impairments navigate New York City’s subway system: “I have very little vision left,” said Rizzo, who is constantly worrying about being pushed around the subway station and standing too close to the track… I still use it all the time with friends, colleagues, and family. But independently, I’ve pulled back entirely out of fear and anxiety.”
