Sources: Weight of cars, age of structure were likely factors in NYC parking garage collapse in Lower Manhattan
NYU Tandon Assistant Professor Luis Ceferino commented on the April 2023 deadly parking garage collapse in Lower Manhattan, where it was suspected the weight of cars and the age of the structure were likely factors. "You could have cars now on different floors that could have added weight to the building that it wasn't designed for. There needs to be some investigation to see actually what was the capacity of the building and whether it was exceeded because of the decision to add more weight," said Ceferino.
